Pits & Fissures Sealant
The chewing (top) surfaces of all newly erupted primary (baby) or permanent (adult) molars teeth ofen have deep pits and fissures that often are too narrow and deep for the toothbrush bristles to fit in and effectively remove impacted food debris. If left undisturbed, impacted food debris will eventually lead to development of dental caries, or cavity, on the surfaces of untreated teeth.
Dental sealant is a non-invasive, least expensive preventive procedure in which a clear or tooth-color resin material used to applied on the properly cleaned and prepared occlusal (chewing) surfaces of newly erupted teeth, preventing them from developing cavities from food impaction.
