Removable Dentures:

As the name implies, this type of prostheses are removable by the patients for easy of care and maintaining hygiene. They are fabricated by the dental laboratory, per instructions of the dentist, from high impact acrylics for the denture base and denture teeth. They are made of two categories listed below:

Partial Denture

Removable Partial Dentures (RPD) are used to replace a few missing teeth in the dental arch. They can be made entirely of acrylic, or a combination of acrylic and metal frame work. They are strategically designed by the dentist to engage in surrounding teeth for superior support and retention. As a result, patients are generally happy with this type of prostheses.

Complete Denture

Removable Complete Dentures are indicated when all the teeth in the dental arch are missing. They are typically made of acrylic base and teeth that seat passively over the residual dental ridge for support and retention. Depending on the size, shape, and volume of the residual ridge, the fit of the these prostheses may range from great to questionable.
