Tori removal is a routine procedure, in which the area to be treated are numbed, following by a small incision and reflection of soft tissue covering, allowing access to the bony irregularities for their removal.

The tori can sometimes be associated with different areas of the mouth, as the picutures to the left showed. They can be on the hard palate, or the roof of the mouth, or on the tongue or cheedk side of the lower arch. Tori removal procedure may be needed to recontour the residual dental arch or arches, removing all irregularities and bony specules, prior to fabrication of dental prostheses. It is done to ensure that the prostheses are not seating on those irregularities, causing problem with fitting and discomfort during functioning.
